Yoshinoya HD, which just celebrated 120 years since its founding, operates major restaurant chains, with the most prominent being Yoshinoya, the original inventor of gyudon (beef bowl) and a name that has become nearly pronominal for “gyudon restaurant”. It has the fifth largest sales out of the 95 publicly listed restaurant companies. Currently, while concentrating primarily on the development of its gyudon (beef bowl), udon noodle, and fast-food operations, the company is expanding its business both in Japan and overseas, including in areas such as China, America, and ASEAN regions. Its core brands are Yoshinoya (gyudon), Hanamaru Udon (udon noodles), and Setagaya and Bariuma (ramen).
